Six people were seriously injured when two cars collided on the M13 Durban-bound near Everton Road in the Gillits area on Saturday night.
Rescue Care paramedics arrived on the scene just after 11.30pm “to find chaos”, Rescue Care spokesman Garrith Jamieson said.
Two cars had collided on the freeway before one of them left the road, rolling down an embankment and coming to a rest on its side.
“Paramedics found that one of the drivers was trapped in his vehicle and paramedics together with the Durban fire department worked to free the driver. Once freed the man was then stabilised on the scene before being transported to a nearby hospital for the further care that he required.
“Five people in the second car had sustained serious injuries and were stabilised on the scene by advanced life support paramedics before transporting them… to a nearby hospital for further care that they required.”
The cause of the collision was still unknown, Jamieson said.
